Believe it or not, marketing is normally one of the biggest expenses for a business, other than employees! With that being said, your business needs to maximize the funds being put into this department. How can this be done? Well, having an actual marketing plan can do wonders.
Read on as we go over a few things that every business’s marketing plan should include. We are Spire Marketing one of the top web design and digital marketing agencies in Pensacola! So, yes, we definitely know a thing or two about a marketing plan. 😉
Narrow Down Your Target Market
You need to constantly ask yourself, “Who am I trying to reach?”
Answering this simple question will influence every part of your marketing plan.
There are also a few user persona templates available that come in very handy.
Here’s some questions that every good user persona template will answer:
Digging even deeper, here are some other details that should be covered:
- Family life
- Job title
- Job function
- Pain points
If your audience feels like you are talking directly to them, they will be much more likely to buy something from you.
Analyze Your Competition
You always need to keep an eye on your competition and see how you stack up against them.
Find where their marketing strategy is thriving, and look to boost your business in those areas.
Likewise, see where their approach is weak, and look to do even better.
One of our current marketing clients has a competitor that has a well-done website and nice truck wraps (just to name a few things); however, their social media content is extremely weak. None of their posts show any branding, and they don’t seem to have a clear strategy. With that in mind, we’ve made sure that our client has a cohesive feed with every post having a clear purpose.
This is a very simple example, but it illustrates how you should constantly be assessing every part of your competition’s marketing and seeing how you can do it better.
Figure Out Your Plan Of Attack
Once you narrow down your target market, you should easily be able to figure out where they are “hanging out.”
Maybe they’re targeting the younger crowd. Instagram or TikTok would be where they spend most of their time.
Or perhaps they only use more professional networks such as LinkedIn.
Sometimes going the digital route isn’t even optimal. Believe it or not, direct mailers will even appeal to certain groups (yes, some people actually still like getting mail 😁).
More often than not, your avenue of marketing will be a combination of a few marketing activities, both digital and physical!
Just remember not to spread yourself too thin. Choose a few solid platforms for your marketing and go all-in on them!
